inspection and NDT

How can we detect the flaws during the fabrication of a metallic part or to prevent the malfunctioning of a device (cracks, breaks) which have metallic parts

Metallic structure which have flaws on its surface can be detected through techniques of dye penetrant testing (for non porous and smooth material) and of magnetic particle testing (for ferromagnetic material).

The flaws situated in depth of metallic structure having an average thickness (ex: axes of mills) may be detected by ultrasonic tests. For objects of important thickness, or made of dense material (ex: control of the welding of the boiler of a thermal power plant), the technique used for the detection of flaws is gamma radiography.

All these techniques are specific to Non Destructive Testing (NDT): they allow the detection of flaws on metallic structures (welding, axis, pipes etc.) without deteriorating the tested materials.

APAVE Indian Ocean has a dedicated team to Non Destructive Testing, which is composed of qualified and certified engineers and technicians, who realize regular controls on all types of metallic structures.
